MY FATHER WAS TAKEN TO STALAG LUFT 6 AND LATER ESCAPED WITH 5 OTHERS DURING THE DEATH MARCH. ONE OF HIS FELLOW ESCAPEES WAS DONALD D DORFMEIER, OF THE 398TH BG AND ALSO FROM FRESNO, CA. HIS SON DAVID DORFMEIER CALLED ME OUT OF THE BLUE YESTERDAY. HE HAS 3 HOURS OF AUDIO TAPES FROM HIS FATHER AND IS RESEARCHING AND WRITING A BOOK. I AM IN THE TV BUSINESS AND FROM WHAT I'VE LEARNED IN THE LAST 20 HOURS, MAY DO A DOCUMENTARY. ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

Ralph Montiel

 

Ralph Frenchie Montiel, 73, of Leavenworth, KS, died December 17, 1996. He was a member of Bill Stiel's B-17 combat crew that flew with the 452nd Bomb Group, 728 BS. He flew the waist position and was shot down on his 14th mission over Mannheim, Germany. He was interned at St. Wendel, then moved by boxcar where he was double timed by SS troops with dogs to Stalag Lut IV. He also made the 86-day forced march to meet American troops. He was preceeded in death by his first wife, Marge. He leaves his wife Diane, children and stepchildren.
